Like other games in the Battlefield series, Battlefield 1 relies on team play, and brutal melee combat. For the game, DICE introduced a range of weapons that approximate the reality of WWI trench warfare. Semi-automatic rifles and flamethrowers were novel at the time, yet old school weapons like bolt-action rifles and sabers found good use too. The same counts for the poor man's choice: when all else fails, take your soldier's spade to hammer at the enemy, or else MacGyver a 'trench club' from a piece of wood and a handful of nails.
Battlefield 1 is a first person shooter game in the Battlefield-series, made by EA DICE in Stockholm and first released Fall 2016. The game is set in World War I, allowing for both gritty details from the gruesome fighting in that war, but also weapons and fighting styles that are as far apart as aiming flame throwers at tanks, and hitting soldiers with shovels. Visually, the game takes its cues from a wide range of media: WWI-era photographs and film, but also post-war romanticized paintings, or the 'Lawrence of Arabia' movie.
