Naughty Dog artists, while producing Uncharted 4, work on more than meets the eye. The entrance to Tew’s Mansion, made by Naughty Dog concept artist John Sweeney, is a case in point. Apart from creating a mansion that would look convincingly old and worn, the script for Uncharted 4 informed Sweeney of the presence of snipers in and around the building. And so the artist considered interesting cover options while drawing this work. 'Arguably the most difficult aspect of the development was making environments and areas that both look great and provide great gameplay opportunities', Naughty Dog artists wrote. Foliage and vegetation is key: for Uncharted 4, concept art dealt with very specific guidelines for cover that are invisible to the player.
