About the artwork

Malabar Jr and His Krazy Diaspora, artwork by Julien Renoult

Malabar Jr and his Krazy Diaspora
Malabar Jr is the most personal project Julien Renoult has undertaken so far. The story of a band of thugs and mutants in search of their own origin - the golden age of man - plays out in an upside down world where genetic and physical limitations no longer exist. This has always been a project that is very close to Renoult's heart.

The Malabar Jr artworks double as designs for a short film project in development. Style- and content wise the Malabar works showcase Julien Renoult's complete spectrum of influences, education and background verging from pop culture to classical styles and themes.

    What is Liquid Gloss?

Liquid Gloss is an epoxy resin that gets poured on top of the print after it's mounted on Dibond and has been cleared of dust. This is precision work and afterwards the epoxy needs to harden for several days. The end result is a beautuful, clear and high-gloss protective layer with rounded edges and corners. Liquid Gloss has the same contrast enhancing qualities as Diasec with acrylic glass but saturates the colors slightly, making for a very vibrant piece or artwork.

    About Diasec® and Acrylic glass

Diasec® is a transparent gel and patented process used for facemounting prints against acrylic glass. Because of the different light penetration and refraction of our acrylic glass compared to normal glass, the colors of a print behind acrylic glass will show to be more brilliant and the image sharper when compared to standard glass. The Diasec®/Acrylic glass process also makes the print resistant to ultraviolet (UV) light and is therefore the standard for museum-grade usage. Cook & Becker uses Dibond as a carrier for Diasec®/Acrylic glass prints and photo's. The result is a completely flat mount that comes ready to hang.
